The Location of Our Apartment
Our 3 bedroom apartment is situated on 2nd Floor of a Beachfront building. The vista from the balcony is quite stunning with views over the Nautical Club towards La Manga. You can also see the islands of the Mar Menor and the mountains in the distance. On the balcony there is a Paris style table and 6 matching chairs. As the military airport nearby is home to the Spanish equivalent of the Red Arrows, the balcony is an ideal place to watch them as they practice their flying over the Mar Menor in the mornings whilst enjoying breakfast. It is a great place to sunbathe or just sit and watch the world go. There is a gas barbeque, so if you don’t want to go out in the evening, you can chill out with a beer or a glass of wine and enjoy a freshly cooked steak. An adjustable awning fitted to the balcony lets you control the amount of shade and light which enters the apartment. For those of you who are early risers, watching the sunrise from the balcony is a magical experience.
The town centre is less than 5 minutes walk away. There you will find a number of banks, restaurants, bars and shops. There are a number of beach-bars nearby, the closest one being less than 50 metres from the building. Free parking is available outside the building and in the side roads, however during the months of July and August finding a parking space will not be easy. The apartment is less than 10 minutes drive from the nearest airport, Murcia (San Javier).
We chose the area and location because it does not have the thumping discos, ex-pat bars and British cafes selling ‘chips with everything’ like a number of major Spanish resorts. This apartment is ideal if you are looking for somewhere to relax and enjoy the Spanish way of life.
Inside the apartment
When we first bought the property we had no intention of renting it out, it was going to be our second home in Spain. So, we furnished it in a way we wanted so it isn’t your typical holiday home. As this is our home in Spain we have decorated and furnished it in such a way to provide all the comforts of home. Throughout the apartment there are paintings and nice prints on the walls as well as glass shelves and nice lamps. We have bought quality electrical items and luxury soft furnishings, using such brands as Pierre Cardin and Royal Dolton. It is unlike a number of holiday homes, which we ourselves have stayed in, where they have used the cheapest items possible.
In the lounge there are 2 cream leather sofas as well as a large black leather footstool (which can be used as a seat by children). The 42” wide Plasma Screen is connected to a Sony DVD player (with a selection of films) and a Sky satellite receiver showing all the main UK channels. There is a good quality British Hi-fi system along with a selection of CD’s as well as a Nintendo Gamecube and a number of games. Remote control Air-conditioning is fitted in the lounge. Next to the lounge is the kitchen.
The kitchen is fitted with a number of units along with a fan assisted oven and a ceramic hob. As well as the fridge/freezer and microwave oven there is a washer/dryer and a dishwasher. We have provided all the crockery and glasses we feel you should need along with a set of quality saucepans and other cookware. There are views of the Mar Menor through the arch in the kitchen and through the window.
The apartment has 3 bedrooms. In the main bedroom there is a king-size four poster metal bed as well as a large pine wardrobe and 2 three drawer bedside cabinets. Remote control air-conditioning is fitted above the bed along with a ceiling fan.
In the second bedroom there is a quality wooden double bed against a mirrored wall. Bedside cabinets are fitted into the bed unit. There is also a large Pine wardrobe for storage. To keep the bedroom cool a multi-speed ceiling fan is fitted.
In the third bedroom there are a set of metal bunk-beds. For storage there is a 5 drawer pine unit. Chilled air is provided by a unit fitted above the door.
Located next to the main bedroom is the shower-room with a multi-head shower, hand basin and low level WC. Cool/Hot air is provided by a unit above the door.
In the bathroom next door is a metal bath with a dual showerhead attachment as well as a glass sink and waterfall tap with illuminated mirror above. There is also a low level WC and bidet. Again Cool/Hot air is provided by a unit above the door.
In the hallway on top of the marble top table there is a selection of books. At the end of the hallway there is a cupboard on the left. Inside there is a Sunbed and a Sun-Lounger as well as a digital safe.
At the back of the apartment there is a huge rear communal terrace. It is a great place to sunbathe from the mid-afternoon onwards as it catches the sun until it sets. Although it is a communal terrace, we have never known anyone else use it apart from us.
We visit the area 4 or 5 times a year and are constantly upgrading and improving the apartment. We always take note of the comments left in the guestbook and act on any suggestions to improve the accommodation.
